Reports in the press have been dramatic and painted a resoundingly negative impact on kids during the pandemic. A review of the literature shows a more nuanced picture. The question remains of whether virtual learning for public schools is a realistic option – and is it even something we should be encouraging…or not?!

The CDC published a report on virtual learning in the pandemic that probably sent many alarm bells ringing through many communities with many news outlets reporting negative headlines such as: “Virtual learning can be damaging to children’s mental health”.

That certainly sounds bad, but is this what the CDC said and what are the caveats?
