Aren’t we getting a long, long list of fruits and berries that improve brain function?
Yes, we are, and this research itself was a follow up on a blueberry study. But it was specifically that both blueberries and strawberries contain antioxidants called anthocyanins. These anthocyanins are related to a variety of cognitive and health benefits.
So, what did this study show?
Robert Krikorian of the University of Cincinnati followed 30 middle-aged and overweight participants over 12 weeks. Half received powder that was the equivalent to a cup of strawberries, and the other half received a placebo powder, which they were instructed to consume every day with breakfast. They were instructed not to eat any other berries.
