What do you mean by “values clashes”?
Values are core belief systems which may involve politics, religion, or other important areas of life. These tend to be key to an individual’s identity and therefore are not easily, if at all, changeable.
When these clash there can therefore be no easy compromise and because they are central to persons identity they can cause more anger or frustration and lead to individuals being marginalised. It’s not the same if you disagree on what is the best style of pizza, for example, or who your favourite music group is.
What this study also showed is that those who feel in a “values minority” feel they receive less respect and this leads to being less engaged.
Ok, so those in a values minority feel marginalised and less engaged. But how do you overcome this? It sounds difficult!
