Research Hit: How Yoghurt Can Lower Depression And Stress
The active component in yoghurt seems to benefit more than just our gut
Really, can eating yoghurt moderate depression and stress?
Yes. But it is not yoghurt itself but Lactobacillus - one of the strains of bacteria found in active yoghurt. We have known for a long time that these so-called “good” bacteria are good for your health but most considered, when this became more common knowledge, that this was just for your gut health.

Indeed. As you know, I have written multiple times on the microbiome, and the gut microbiome specifically, and how this influences our brain and immune system. There are multiple channels of communication between these. I’ve written about links with the microbiome and brain development in babies, links between gut bacteria and cognition in boys, the link between your gut and wisdom, your gut and reversing ageing, and much more (you can search my archive here on substack).
So what is this recent study about then?
