Ageing research is widespread – ageing affects us all at some stage and in many Western countries the demographics are shifting towards older generations. It must also be noted that much of the ageing research could also fall into other categories namely exercise, sleep, or nutrition. But I’ll summarise those that had a specific focus on ageing here.

Let’s start off with attitude because this resonates with me so well. I am 53 now and many of you know I compete in masters athletics. Though I sometimes joke about my age and my teenage daughter ribs me about being old - that’s ok, it’s the same with my old friends. However, due to athletics and other sports that I have engaged in all my life, I am in good shape. Very good shape actually. My sprinting speed is as fast as it was in my 20s (mostly because I never really trained full-out sprinting in my 20s) and my athletic times are still improving at all distances.
